Bayou City Cycle Club is a community organization with a focus on promoting cycling, safety, education, and maintaining a culture of fitness and wellness.
BCCC hosted our first ride on June 9th 2018. Within our first month we’ve hosted 5 weekend rides, 2 introductory rides, and have put approximately 130 miles under our tires. In our first month we had a cumulative 35 participants, and had 64 members subscribed on Meetup.com.
We’re now setting our focus on building an online education system, building weekly orientation rides that build on those courses ranging from in ride communication, cycling laws, training information and more.
In addition we’re also working on building a bike share program so that beginner riders can come still come out to the Orientation rides and get a feel for cycling before they start the journey of byuying thier first bike. We recogize that there are some significant barriers to starting out, and we want to break those barriers down as much as possible. Cycling is a wonderful sport, and we believe that we can do alot to make it accessible to more people.
BCCC is participating in our very first event this October. Bike Around the Bay is a 2 day ride where cyclists work to gather donations for the Galveston Bay Foundation. The mission of the Galveston Bay Foundation is to preserve and enhance Galveston Bay as a healthy and productive place for generations to come. We are riding to support the most productive bay in Texas that provides habitat for more than one-third of all threatened and endangered species, produces more oysters than any other body of water in the United States, and supports vital industries like agriculture, tourism, and more. Additionally half of the population of Texas lives within the Galveston Bay watershed.
